Max's Time Work Experience
Supporting Local Talent Through Work Experience
At IRUN, we believe in supporting the local community by giving students real insight into the digital industry. Work experience placements allow students to gain practical skills while seeing how professional websites are built, managed, and maintained.
Recently, we welcomed Max for a work experience placement where he had the opportunity to work on real projects for local businesses. During his time with us, Max worked on tasks that form part of the everyday workflow of a web development and digital support agency.
Working on a Real Client Website: TFD Gym
As part of his placement, Max worked on updates for the TFD Gym website, a local gym whose website we manage and support.
A key task Max worked on involved bulk image updates across blog posts. This work is important for maintaining a website because images need to be correctly sized, optimised, and displayed consistently across all content.
Through this task, Max learned how website content is structured and how blog posts pull in images from the media library. He also gained experience navigating WordPress and understanding how updates to media can affect content across multiple pages.
Working on a live project like this gave Max a realistic understanding of the type of maintenance and optimisation work that happens behind the scenes on professional websites.
Real Industry Experience
One of the key goals of work experience at IRUN is to give students exposure to real industry workflows rather than just theory.
During his time at IRUN, Max had the opportunity to experience what working in a web design and digital support company is really like. One of his main tasks involved helping with updates to the TFD Gym website, where he worked on making bulk image changes across a number of blog posts. This type of work is important for keeping websites organised and visually consistent, especially when a site contains a large amount of content.
By working on genuine website tasks, Max was able to see how:
- Local businesses rely on their websites
- Content and images are managed across multiple pages
- Meetings are achieved between web developers and clients
